Good news everyone! Tongwynlais now has a bicycle cafe, thoroughly stuffing up our assertion that Tongwynlais doesn’t make enough of its prime location on the Taff Trail.
We are particularly excited about Plan2Ride, being based up this neck of the woods it makes this an excellent place to congregate before a ride, or to grab a sneaky brew on the way home.
We’ve been in regular contact with the owners, Raoul and Louise, even getting a tour of the premises before the fittings were put in. They’re a great couple who seem keen to get involved in the riding side of things as well as the coffee.
Speaking of coffee, they’re currently rocking a Guatemalan bean, roasted here in South Wales. Today was their first day of trading, so we paid them another visit. The Americano I had was excellent and the shelves are filling up with parts and accessories for when you are caught short.
You’ll be able to pick up everything from helmets to cleats there, making this a very useful little development. They’re also open from 8am until 6pm, so you should be able to catch them either on the way to or from work for much of the week, but they’re obviously open on weekends too.
Where are they?
They’re on Market Street, almost directly opposite the rugby club, but to help you we’ve added them to OpenStreetMap.
If you are heading into Tongwynlais from the south, take a left at the Lewis Arms and you’ll see them immediately on your left. You can park your bike in the courtyard at the back. You’ll be able to see your bike through the window while you are inside.
Oh, the other piece of good news is that they take Apple Pay, so iPhone & Apple Watch users can leave their wallets at home.
They’re also recruiting! One thing we should have mentioned is that the cafe also has a workshop and at the time of writing they are recruiting for a bike mechanic. So, if you know your way around a bottom bracket, why not drop them a line?
Scrub that, the workshop is now up and running!
