Weekend closures for Taff Mead Embankment Railway Bridge

Taff Trail users take note! Network Rail is closing the underpass linking the Taff Mead Embankment stretch of the Trail with Fitzhamon Embankment.

The closures will be for the next two weekends, the 22nd and 29th October.

Network Rail has told residents it will mean the pedestrian walkway underneath the bridge – also part of the Taff Trail – will be closed “for approximately 24 hours” on the weekends of October 22-23 and 29-30. It means residents will have to walk to town via Clare Road and Tudor Street from Grangetown – although a free minibus shuttle service is being organised.

Whilst there will be minibuses available for pedestrians on those weekends, those of us on bikes will have to go around.

You don’t have too many alternatives here. Heading north, you can take Penydris Street to Clare Road, take a right and follow Clare Road and Clare Street to Despenser Street. However, attempting to turn right onto Clare Road is not much fun.

If you are feeling brave, you could take Corporation Road and Clare Road all the way down from Clarence Bridge.

Heading south it’s a similar story, but at least turning left onto Penydris Street is easier and you won’t have to wait for a rare gap in the traffic.
