Events Calendar

Looking for somewhere to ride? Perhaps there’s something on the calendar that takes your fancy?

Your events

Do you have a bike related event you think we might be interested in? Why not email an invite to cardiffbybike at gmail.com and it’ll appear in the calendar for all to see.

Audax Rides

An Audax ride is a long distance bike ride. The routes are generally circular, they’re non-competitive but there is a time limit. 100Km rides will usually finish in the late afternoon and early evening, but rides of 200Km or more will often finish beyond 8pm. They’re a test of endurance and time management, rather than flat-out speed!

There is no fixed route, but there will be a number of control points that you need to stop at to have your Brevet card signed or stamped. Otherwise you are free to follow the suggested route or improvise.

If you are a member of Audax UK, successfully completing a ride within the time limit will earn you points for the season, but whilst you don’t have to be a member to try an Audax ride, you’ll usually need to pay a little extra to cover administration and you’ll have to contact the “Recorder” if you want to add your points to your new account should you join later.

Membership is around £20 per year and rides are typically between £5-£10 to enter. Check out aukweb.net for more information. Cardiff rides tend to start from either the Village Hotel in Coryton or the Toby Carvery in Pontprennau, but as a member you can enter any that take your fancy UK-wide.

CTC Rides

Our local Cardiff CTC group hold weekly rides every Wednesday, as well as longer rides on the weekend. You don’t have to be a CTC member to try one, but you will be expected to join if you wish to make a habit of it. That being said, the 3rd party insurance included in your CTC membership is no bad thing to have anyway.

Check out cardiffctc.com for more information.

Cardiff Cycle Tours

If you are new to Cardiff and would like a guided tour to get yourself acquainted and meet some interesting characters, check out Cardiff Cycle Tours. They have a couple of set tours for around £20 if you wish to rent a bike, but if you bring your own its only £12 for three hours. One starts in the morning, the other in the afternoon, so if you are feeling energetic you could probably do both in one day. You do have to book a place though, but there’s a number of ways to get in touch via the website.

Breeze Network

Breeze is Sky’s women-only programme to get more women into cycling.
Their aim is to help thousands more women feel confident and comfortable about going on a ride.

Their events are a little more sporadic than say CTC’s rides and they seem to be during the working day, but if you’d like to get out with a group of like-minded women, it’s worth keeping an eye on Breeze – Sky Ride for planned rides.
